Old Science Assignment
The instructions for this assignment were to choose a famous scientist from a list and write notes on their life and what they did to contribute to science. There were a few facts about each person on the website but I had to look up a lot more. The reason that I chose this as my old science assignment is because it was one of my first ever note taking assignments. This assignment was one of my first assignments that I was actually proud of because of my work.

James Cook
Early Life
James was born in a small village called Yorkshire of Marton on the 27th of October 1728.
His father was named James Cook and his mother named Grace Cook.
His father was a laborer and his mother stayed at home cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the household.
James was baptized at the St. Cuthbert Church.
He was born the 2nd of 8 children.
At the age of 17 he worked for a shopkeeper in Staithes near Whitby.
He decided during his time working for his shopkeeper that he wanted to have a life at sea.

James loved the sea and became a navy apprentice.
After he passed his exams in 1752 he got up to the merchant ranks in the navy.
Shortly after he got into the merchant ranks he started volunteering in the Royal Navy.
His first ship as a master was the HMS Pembroke and his job was to make a route from France to modern-day Canada.
During his trip he lost 26 men due to Scurvy, Scurvy is an illness caused by a deficiency of vitamin C.
His first position in the Royal Navy was with the ‘HMS Eagle’, where he took part in the capture of one French warship and the sinking of another.
End of Life
Every voyage that James took he successfully fought Scurvy.
He never caught Scurvy because he ate a diet of watercress, sauerkraut and orange extract.
His final voyage was only his third voyage where he set sail from Plymouth and ended in Hawaii.
He ended up dying by a stab wound on February 14, 1779.
What James Cook was famous for
He was a very skilled naval explorer who discovered many things.

He also discovered New Zealand.
Facts about James Cook
James Cook sailed thousands of miles all around the world.
He was the first European explorer to see and chart the eastern coast of Australia.
He had 6 children and a wife named Elizabeth.
New Science Assignment
The instructions for this assignment were for me to gather information on whales and sound pollution and take notes. I ended up taking not many notes but I had a very good reason for that. The reason that I did not take as many notes as my old science assignment is because my notes including a lot more and explained everything. In my opinion this was one of the funnest note taking assignments because of how much I did.
Humpback whales can weigh 40-50 tons and can reach 40-50 feet long.
Humpback whales have baleen which are little teeth like things that only let fish up to the size of a grapefruit go in.
Orcas also known as killer whales can reach a length of 33 feet long and can weigh up to 11 tons.
Orcas have teeth similar to humans and they eat fish and even dolphins and sharks.
Noise pollution in the water is affecting all kinds of marine animals including Orcas, Whales, Dolphins, and even fish.
The noise pollution is caused by large ships making very loud sounds and Whales, Orcas, and even Dolphins communicate by making high frequency sounds and the boats disturb it.
Baby marine animals that communicate to their mothers by high frequency sounds end up getting lost and they end up dying without proper care.
Scientists have already found a few solutions to noise pollution but they will need people to cooperate with them.
Their solutions include slowing down big ships, avoiding areas with lots of sea life, and they also need them to change their propellers.
Not many companies are cooperating with these scientists so they keep on killing tons of marine animals without regret.
Scientists are actively working to find even solutions so that the companies will not disagree with them but they will save more marine animals.
Many people who work on these ships leave ropes and many other things in the ocean that end up getting tangled around many creatures and they usually end up dying.
Some good people go on quite boats and cut the ropes off of the marine animals and save their lives
